Yesterday (Thursday 21st April) saw pupils from four schools take to the famous Emirates Old Trafford pitch to play for the chance to win the Kukri T20 Cup.
The schools were selected by their sportswear provider, Kukri Sports to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Kukri have also been the official kit supplier to Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) for several years.
The tournament started with Denstone College proving too strong for a spirited Merchant Taylors School, securing a place in the final. Next, AKS successfully chased the score posted by Bury Grammar School, with just two balls left to spare.
The sun was shining on Emirates Old Trafford when Denstone College posted an incredible 167 before bowling AKS out for 78 in the final to be crowned Kukri T20 Cup Champions. Left-arm spinner, Andrew Billington was presented with the Player of the Tournament award by Ashley Giles, part in thanks to his heroics in the semi-final, where he took 3 wickets in a single over.
“We were delighted to give these young people the opportunity to play at such an incredible venue. Up-and-coming cricketers dream of playing on the famous Old Trafford pitch and thanks to our partnership with Lancashire County Cricket Club, we can make those dreams a reality.”
